President Donald Trump is urging Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota to resign from Congress as the Department of Justice conducts an investigation into potential immigration fraud. Fox News and Fox Business both reported that the president is calling for her resignation, raising questions about whether House Republicans could take action against her. [1][2]

The calls for Omar to step down come as Republicans hope to remove Democrats from Capitol Hill in the upcoming elections, according to Fox News. However, Trump is focused on removing Omar despite her representing a solidly Democratic district that she carried two years ago with nearly three-quarters of the vote. [1]

The New York Post and Fox News reported that Omar faced criticism for appearing at a campaign event with streamer Hasan Piker on October 26. The event was hosted by Minnesota state lawmaker Omar Fateh. During a green-room conversation before taking the stage, Omar joked with Piker that the media fixates on her because of her good looks. [3][6]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Trump previously suggested Omar should resign over claims concerning her surname and former marriage. Federal agents searched Omar's Washington residence on October 12 and seized items including cell phones. Omar, who was born in Somalia and is the first Somali-American elected to Congress, has denied committing immigration fraud. [9][10][11]
