Representative Ilhan Omar said on Wednesday that she will leave her Washington, D.C., apartment due to death threats following a federal investigation and a raid on her home. The Washington Examiner and NBC News reported that Omar is vacating the property for safety reasons. Up to 15 federal agents executed a search warrant at her residence earlier this month, according to the Washington Examiner. [1][9]

The federal probe centers on financial record discrepancies and immigration documentation. The Washington Examiner reported that President Donald Trump stated in January that the Department of Justice was examining Omar's financial records, while Vice President JD Vance said the department is investigating additional allegations. Reports from washingtonexaminer.com noted that the Trump administration is investigating her immigration fraud case and citizenship status, which involves paperwork completed decades ago. [1][6]

In her first interview since the search, Omar addressed longstanding claims regarding her former marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. The New York Post reported that when asked by MS NOW host Chris Hayes if she was related to her ex-husband, Omar replied, "Not to my knowledge." She also characterized claims that she had married her brother as insane, according to the New York Post. [2]

Omar has served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019, having previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives. As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed the search warrant at her Washington-area home on October 12, 2026, as part of a criminal fraud investigation concerning her childhood immigration paperwork.
