Representative Angie Craig declined 2019 request to refer Ilhan Omar for ethics probe

Representative Angie Craig declined a request in 2019 to refer fellow Representative Ilhan Omar to the House Ethics Committee, Fox News reported. Correspondence obtained by the outlet shows that Craig directed then Minnesota state Representative Steve Drazkowski to the standard congressional complaint process instead. [1]

In a 2019 letter, Craig told Drazkowski that he could submit a complaint himself to the Office of Congressional Ethics if he wished to pursue an investigation. Fox News reported that members of the public, advocacy organizations, and members of Congress are permitted to submit information directly to that office. [1]

The release of the correspondence comes as an unidentified Minnesota Democratic operative told Fox News that a federal probe into marriage fraud allegations involving Omar is legitimate. Fox Business and the Daily Wire reported that federal authorities previously examined marriage allegations regarding Omar in a 2016 investigation. [2][3][5]

Omar has served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019. As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal agents searched her Washington residence on October 12 as part of an ongoing investigation into her identity and immigration records. [8][11]
