A bipartisan government watchdog has filed a Hatch Act complaint against the Trump administration following a federal raid on the residence of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, UPI reported. The legal filing alleges that federal law enforcement agents executed the search to influence the outcome of November's midterm elections, according to UPI. The Hill also reported that a legal group submitted a Hatch Act complaint regarding the search. [1][8]

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations conducted a pre-dawn search of Omar's Washington, DC, home, UPI and the New York Post reported. UPI noted that the criminal investigation stems from paperwork her late father filed when her family immigrated to the United States decades ago when she was 12 years old. The National Review similarly reported that federal authorities raided her residence in a probe related to her immigration paperwork, while FTMQ News reported earlier that federal agents executed the search warrant on October 12, 2026. [1][3][7][14]

Following the search, Omar's congressional campaign sent a fundraising email criticizing the Department of Homeland Security raid as ludicrous, the New York Post reported. Her campaign urged supporters to fight back against the action and donate to her campaign, according to the New York Post. [3]

Omar has served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's fifth congressional district since 2019. The Hatch Act of 1939 is a federal law that prohibits civil service employees in the executive branch from engaging in certain forms of political activity. [9][10]
