A deleted 2013 social media post from Representative Ilhan Omar has resurfaced as federal investigators examine questions surrounding her identity and immigration records, the New York Post reported. In the June 2013 post on X, which was deleted in 2019, the Minnesota Democrat referred to her father as Nur Said. The New York Post noted that other official records, including a 2020 Congressional Black Caucus memorial post, list her father as Nur Omar Mohamed. [1]

The name used in the deleted post appears similar to the name of her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, according to the New York Post. Fox News reported that Omar is facing a federal probe into alleged identity fraud, marriage fraud, and false statements, which could potentially lead to denaturalization or deportation. Meanwhile, The Daily Wire reported that Omar insists her name has always been Ilhan Omar. [1][5][7]

Omar has served as the United States representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019, after serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1982, she is the first Somali American elected to Congress. Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, who was also known in some reports as Nur Said Mohamed Elmi, was a teacher and a colonel in the Somali National Army. [13][14]

The federal investigation follows recent actions by law enforcement agencies, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Federal agents searched Omar's Washington residence on October 12 and seized items including cell phones. The Washington Post reported that Omar experienced a spike in political fundraising following the federal raid on her home. [8][15][16]
