Representative Pramila Jayapal led an effort to send a letter demanding that the Trump administration stop a federal investigation into Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, Fox News and the New York Post reported. The letter was backed by about 175 House Democrats, according to Fox News and the New York Post, who noted that more than two-thirds of the caucus supported the measure. [1][3]

Nearly 40 House Democrats did not sign the document, Fox News reported. Former senior House Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer were among those who did not sign the letter, according to Fox News. The letter argued that the probe into Omar's immigration paperwork was an attempt to influence her re-election campaign, Fox News reported. [1]

The letter accused the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security of weaponizing law enforcement against Omar, whose Washington home was searched, according to the New York Post. The New York Post reported that Omar is under investigation for alleged immigration fraud relating to how her citizenship paperwork was completed. [3][5]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal agents searched Omar's Washington residence on October 12 and seized cell phones. Omar has served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019. She is the first Somali-American elected to Congress. [13][15][16]
