Democratic Attorney General Letitia James defeated Republican candidate Saritha Komatireddy on Tuesday to win another term, according to the New York Post and the Times Union. Early results showed that Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor, failed to unseat the two-term incumbent. James declared victory at the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan alongside Democratic Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York Post reported. [1][5][8]

During her victory speech, James told the gathering that voters sent a clear message that they want her to finish the job, the New York Post reported. She pledged to continue to stand up and defend the rights of New Yorkers. The Washington Examiner noted that in August 2025, a New York appeals court set aside a penalty of approximately $500 million from her civil fraud lawsuit against President Donald Trump, although James maintained that the case had merit. [1][2]

James has served since 2019 as the 67th attorney general of New York [7]. She is the first Black person to hold the office of New York attorney general and the first Black woman elected to statewide office in New York [7]. Komatireddy previously worked as a federal prosecutor in New York and served as chief of staff of the Drug Enforcement Administration [8]. [7][8]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Komatireddy had gained the endorsement of former baseball player Mark Teixeira during her campaign. James faced political scrutiny during the race after accepting more than $56,000 in campaign contributions from individuals associated with three homeless shelter operators that her office did not investigate, as FTMQ News reported earlier.
