Former baseball player Mark Teixeira endorsed Saritha Komatireddy, the Republican candidate challenging New York Attorney General Letitia James, on October 26, 2026. The Washington Examiner and the New York Post both report that Teixeira endorsed Komatireddy in a video statement. Teixeira is currently running for Congress in Texas as a Republican candidate in the 21st Congressional District. [1][2][3]
According to the New York Post, Teixeira was a switch-hitting first baseman for the 2009 New York Yankees championship team, which was the last Yankees squad to win the World Series. In his video message, Teixeira addressed New Yorkers directly and announced his support for Komatireddy to become the state's next attorney general. [1][3]
Komatireddy is running as an underdog Republican crime fighter against James, The New York Times reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Komatireddy previously issued a mock 52-count indictment against James, accusing the attorney general of dereliction of duty. [4][8]
James has served as the 67th attorney general of New York since 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is the first Black person to serve as New York attorney general. [6]
