Republican rival releases mock indictment against New York Attorney General Letitia James

Republican attorney general candidate Saritha Komatireddy released a mock 52-count public indictment against New York Attorney General Letitia James on October 8, 2026. Fox News and the New York Post reported that the campaign stunt accuses the Democratic incumbent of dereliction of duty ahead of a scheduled debate between the candidates. [1][4][5]

Fox News and the New York Post both reported that the mock document accuses James of neglecting her core responsibilities, including hate crimes, fraud, repeat offenders, and mentally ill people living on the streets. According to Fox News, Komatireddy charged that James focused on political disputes with President Donald Trump instead of addressing those state issues. [1][4]

James has served since 2019 as the 67th attorney general of New York. She is the first Black person elected to the position and the first Black woman to hold statewide office in New York. Separate reports by NBC News and the Daily Mail show that James is also facing legal challenges over her role as a special prosecutor in a high-profile case involving alleged sexual violence at Cornell University.
