House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil warned that Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue could face potential criminal charges from the Department of Justice, Fox News reported on October 29. The warning comes after President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Justice to investigate the platform regarding allegations of foreign cash entering the system. [1]

Steil told Fox News Digital that the congressional investigation into ActBlue will continue. He noted that he expects federal prosecutors to take action if they believe a crime can be proven in court, stating that the platform lacked necessary fraud prevention standards to block foreign funds. [1]

ActBlue was founded in 2004 by Matt DeBergalis and Ben Rahn as an online platform designed to facilitate small dollar donations to Democratic candidates and political causes. It registered with the Federal Election Commission in May 2004 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. [4]

Congressional investigators intend to maintain their probe into the platform to determine whether illegal foreign contributions reached Democratic campaigns through the service. [1]
