Republican Representative Andy Barr won the United States Senate race in Kentucky on Tuesday, November 4, 2026. The Washington Examiner reported that Barr defeated Democratic candidate Charles Booker to claim the seat. The Associated Press called the race at 9:16 p.m. Eastern time, showing Barr leading Booker 53.6 percent to 44.2 percent with 72 percent of the votes counted. [1]

The Hill, WCPO 9 Cincinnati, and WBKO also reported on the election victory for Barr. WCPO 9 Cincinnati noted that ABC projections declared Barr the winner over Booker. Barr, who received an endorsement from Donald Trump, had served in the House of Representatives since 2013. Booker previously lost a United States Senate election to Republican Senator Rand Paul in 2022. [1][2][5][6]

Barr will replace outgoing Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. McConnell has represented Kentucky in the United States Senate since 1985 and is the longest-serving senator in the history of the state. The 84-year-old former Republican party leader decided not to run for another term in office. [1][9]

Garland Hale Andy Barr IV was born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1973. He worked as an attorney and served in the administration of former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher before his election to represent Kentucky's 6th congressional district in 2013. [7][10]
