California congressional candidates prepare for elections as key House seats remain contestable

California congressional candidates are competing in key races across the state as control of the United States House of Representatives remains undecided, the New York Post reported. Candidates are engaging in internal party battles as well as contests between Republicans and Democrats ahead of Tuesday's election. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has endorsed San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan to succeed her in California's 11th congressional district, according to the New York Post. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Supervisor Connie Chan is competing against California state Senator Scott Wiener to succeed Pelosi in Congress. A previous poll showed Wiener leading Chan with 47 percent of support to 41 percent among likely voters. Chan previously called for a full arms embargo on Israel during a televised debate, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [9][10]

Pelosi was the first female elected speaker of the House and served as the leader of the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023. She has represented San Francisco in the House since 1987 and currently serves as the dean of California's congressional delegation. Her legislative career included overseeing the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and the American Rescue Plan in 2021. [6][8]

In separate congressional news, House Democratic leaders are reviewing potential actions against Representative Haley Stevens of Michigan, Fox News and moxie.foxnews.com reported. Stevens endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers over Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race on November 1. Fellow Democrats have called for Stevens to be removed from the House caucus following the endorsement, according to moxie.foxnews.com. [2][3]
