Jon Ossoff wins Georgia Senate seat reelection victory over Mike Collins

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff defeated Republican Representative Mike Collins on Tuesday to win a second term in the United States Senate representing Georgia, the Washington Examiner, the New York Post, and the Irish Times reported. The Associated Press called the race shortly before eight o'clock Eastern time, according to the Washington Examiner. NBC News also projected Ossoff as the winner. [1][2][4][8]

The Washington Examiner reported that Ossoff held 62.9 percent of the vote with 37 percent of votes counted at the time the race was called. According to the New York Post, Ossoff was initially considered the most vulnerable incumbent Democrat entering this election cycle, but an anti-Trump national environment and controversies surrounding Collins aided his victory. [1][2]

The Irish Times and the Washington Examiner both reported that Ossoff maintained a steady lead in polling during the campaign. Main Democratic funding groups pulled advertising money from Georgia in the final weeks, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][4][18][19]

Ossoff became the senior senator for Georgia after taking office in 2021 as the youngest incumbent United States senator. Collins has served as the United States representative for Georgia's 10th congressional district since 2023. [13][14]

The victory by Ossoff could assist Democrats in their attempt to secure a Senate majority, the Washington Examiner reported. [1]
