US Democrats plan 15 billion Ukraine aid after congressional election victories

The Democratic Party has achieved a sweep in the United States midterm elections, gaining control of both houses of Congress and creating a check on President Donald Trump, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters. Ukrainian news outlets UNN, UNITED24 Media, and Militarnyi reported that Democrats are preparing a 15 billion dollar aid package for Ukraine following their victories. [1][6][8][10][11]

In Kyiv, Ukraine hopes the election results will strengthen its position against Russia, Al Jazeera reported. However, the nation continues to face uncertainty regarding President Donald Trump's peace initiatives and the future of military assistance. Al Jazeera quoted Kyrylo, a 37-year-old wounded drone technician in a Kyiv hospital, who stated that Ukrainian forces have learned not to depend on America. [1]

The election outcomes have drawn international reaction regarding the conflict. Le Monde reported that Russia hopes President Donald Trump will persist with his peace efforts despite the Democratic victory in Congress. Meanwhile, Chosunbiz and Yeni Şafak English reported that Russia and Ukraine have traded heavy overnight strikes and mutual accusations while prospective talks with the United States draw near. The Democratic Party, founded in 1828, is a liberal political party in the United States that sits on the center to center-left of the political spectrum. Its primary opponent is the Republican Party, which previously held majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [12][17]
