An overheated power strip triggered a house fire in Riverdale, Utah, that claimed the lives of five members of a family of eight on October 1, the Daily Mail reported. The city fire chief revealed that the power strip was plugged in near the front door, which caused the flames to block the main exit of the home as the family slept. [1]
The fire began shortly before 2:00 am, according to the Daily Mail. Rescuers pulled all eight family members from the burning building, but one child was pronounced dead at the scene. [1]
The Daily Mail reported that 38-year-old Nate Bird died in the blaze along with four of his children. The deceased children were identified as 15-year-old Addisyn, 11-year-old Rayda, nine-year-old Easton, and five-year-old Francie. [1]
Nate Bird and three of his children died at the hospital after being rescued from the home, the Daily Mail reported. Another child is still receiving treatment at the hospital for injuries. [1]
