Irish man dies after being hit by taxi in Madrid

A 52-year-old Irish man has died after being hit by a taxi driver in Madrid, Spain. The Journal and the Sunday World both reported that the collision occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene in the Arganzuela neighbourhood, which is located just south of the historic city centre. [1][2]

According to The Journal, police were the first to respond to the incident around 2.20am. The officers revived the man after he went into cardiac arrest at the scene. He was subsequently transported to the Madrid Hospital Clinico San Carlos, where he later died from his injuries. [1]

The Journal stated that the unnamed Irish national had crossed the road at a location that was not designated for pedestrians, according to witnesses. Witnesses spoken to by the police are understood to have included two passengers who were inside the taxi at the time of the crash. [1]

The taxi driver involved in the incident was identified by police and passed a breathalyser test for alcohol, according to The Journal. Authorities did not arrest the driver following the initial response. [1]
