Oman has evacuated injured crew members from a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker named On Peace following an attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. Al Jazeera reported that the vessel was struck nine nautical miles off the Omani port city of Limah, which set off a fire on board. Middle East Online and The Maritime Executive also reported on the evacuation of the vessel following the strike. [1][6][10]

According to Al Jazeera, Oman's air force transported ten crew members to Khasab hospital in the Musandam governorate for medical treatment. India's Foreign Ministry stated that 11 out of the 12 injured crew members on board the tanker are Indian nationals, as reported by Al Jazeera. The Maritime Executive separately noted that 12 seafarers were injured in the attack on the vessel. [1][10]

The incident comes amid deteriorating maritime security in the region. CNBC reported that nearly 20 commercial ships, mostly oil tankers, have come under attack over the past month while passing through the Hormuz choke point. As FTMQ News reported earlier, maritime transport in the area has faced heightened risks amid regional conflicts. [1][3][13]

Since March 2026, Iran has launched a series of drone and missile strikes targeting sites in Oman and ships in Omani territorial waters within the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Prior to the attack, Oman instructed passing tankers to keep their Automatic Identification Systems turned on while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, TradeWinds News reported. [7][12]
