Hiker survives 100 foot fall on Utah trail after becoming wedged in rocks

A 20 year old woman survived falling approximately 100 feet while hiking with friends in Iron County, Utah, last Thursday morning. The New York Post, KUTV, and Mid Utah Radio all reported that she became wedged between a rock and the cliffside, which prevented a further fall. [1][4][5]

The group was walking on the Red Hollow Trailhead before dawn to watch the sunrise when the accident occurred in the dark, according to the New York Post. The Iron County Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue noted that the woman fell from the mountainside above the trailhead. [1]

The hiker suffered a head injury during the fall, the New York Post reported. Rescue officials stated that she remained conscious after the incident, although she was experiencing confusion about what had happened. [1]

In a separate incident reported earlier by FTMQ News, a 72 year old woman named Mary Beth Granbery survived a 100 foot fall down a steep embankment in Northern California. She was found alive near Cabin Creek after going missing during a solo camping trip that began on September 28. [8]
