Christian leaders are divided over a proposal by Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to livestream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan, the Washington Examiner reported. Dallas Southern Baptist Pastor Robert Jeffress publicly supported the plan, stating that capital punishment is commanded by God to remind people of the sanctity of human life. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin defended the broadcast plan, stating that livestreaming the execution does not create an elevated risk of radicalization. However, politicians from both the Democratic and Republican parties have criticized the proposal, and United States President Donald Trump previously stated he has not decided whether to allow the broadcast. [3][4]
As FTMQ News previously reported, Hasan killed 13 people and injured 32 others during a mass shooting at Fort Hood in 2009. The firing squad execution is scheduled for 3 December at Fort Hood, which would mark the first United States military execution carried out since 1961. [3][4]
Livestreaming involves broadcasting video or audio content in real time or near real time, setting it apart from non-live digital media formats such as video-on-demand. [2]
