The Cuban government is advancing plans to shift toward renewable energy while facing an ongoing United States oil blockade that has strained the island nation economy, Al Jazeera reported. [1]

Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines Vicente de la O Levy told Reuters on Monday that the economic blockade has compelled the nation to search for domestic solutions. He stated that the country will rely on its own resources, including solar, wind, tidal power, domestic crude oil, and well-produced gas. [1]

De la O Levy also denied any connection to fuel shipments that were recently intercepted by the United States. According to Al Jazeera, the energy minister noted that oil imports brought in by private companies remain insufficient to meet the island energy demands. [1]
