The mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong has traveled to the United States to plan her son's funeral after he was shot dead in New York. BBC News, Modern Ghana, GBC Ghana Online, AOL.com, and Hetty's Media reported that Gyamfi expressed a desire for justice as she departed for the US. She stated that she was traveling to America to plan the funeral and thanked the government and well-wishers for their support. [1][2][3][4][6]

BBC News reported that Gyamfi was escorted to the airport by family members and Dr Erieka Bennett, the Head of Mission of the African Diaspora Forum. According to BBC News, authorities are searching for three teenage boys in connection with the killing. Police have not yet made any arrests, and an investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Javits Frimpong died at a local hospital after he was shot in the abdomen on his way to school in the Bronx. BBC News and The Mary Sue confirmed that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly stated on Saturday that President Donald Trump agreed to grant Gyamfi a visa so she could mourn her son in person. [1][5][9]

Mamdani stated in a social media post that the loss of a child was a pain no parent should suffer, especially from thousands of miles away, adding that Frimpong's mother deserved to say goodbye to her son in person. BBC News noted that Mamdani confirmed the visa arrangement directly after speaking on the phone with President Trump. [1]
