New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declined on Monday to say whether he will increase police presence on the subway network following a fatal shooting, the New York Post reported. A male security guard from the Bronx was shot and killed on a Midtown train platform on Saturday while traveling to work. The suspect remains at large. [1]
When asked about deploying additional police officers underground, Mayor Mamdani expressed confidence in the New York Police Department to capture the suspect and endorsed their current strategy, according to the New York Post. The mayor did not confirm any plans for expanded patrols on the transit system. [1]
Mamdani serves as the mayor of New York City and identifies as a democratic socialist. He is a member of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. [2]
The incident follows previous conflicts over law enforcement in the city. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Mayor Mamdani previously called on President Donald Trump to halt federal immigration operations in New York City after federal agents shot a man in a vehicle in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx.
