President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old boy killed in the Bronx, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated on Saturday. The Washington Examiner and the New York Post both reported that Mayor Mamdani contacted President Trump to request the travel permission for the mother, who lives in Ghana. [1][4]

The victim, 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, had moved from Ghana to live with his father roughly a year ago, the Washington Examiner reported. He was shot in the abdomen on Thursday morning while walking to his school near Crotona Park. Police stated that he died later that day at St. Barnabas Hospital. [1]

The shooting occurred on October 29, 2026, in the Bronx, where officers found Frimpong at around 9:24 a.m. near East 171st Street and Crotona Place before he was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The New York Post reported that Mayor Mamdani emphasized that no parent should have to endure the pain of losing a child from thousands of miles away. [4][11]

CNN, Gothamist, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, and The Hindu all confirmed Mayor Mamdani's announcement regarding the visa agreement. The decision will allow Frimpong's mother to travel from Ghana to New York City to mourn her son in person. [2][4][5][6][8][9]
