Etan C. Harris has won the election for District 8th Municipal Court District Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn, the New York Post reported. Unofficial tallies show Harris secured 50.91 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Susan Lieberman by approximately a two percent margin. The victory occurred during local elections on Tuesday. [1]
Republican Party leaders described the victory by Harris as a landmark moment for the local party, according to the New York Post. Party leaders stated that this is the first time a Republican candidate has defeated a Democrat in the judicial district in 105 years. Party leaders called the winner a Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer in a Democratic blizzard. [1]
Speaking at his watch party on Tuesday evening, Harris noted that the race was his first political campaign. Harris stated that he was projected to win and expressed hope that the tally would hold as official results are finalized. [1]
The election in New York coincided with other midterm races across the United States. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez secured reelection to her New York congressional seat on Tuesday night, winning 78.7 percent of the vote in the 14th congressional district.
