Hyatt plans massive StandardX hotel with thrill ride in Times Square

A new 1,800-room hotel called The StandardX Times Square is set to open in New York City in the second half of 2028. Euronews, One Mile at a Time, and CoStar all report that developer Extell has partnered with Hyatt for the project. The massive venue will be Hyatt's largest hotel in New York City, according to One Mile at a Time. [1][3][6]

Euronews and One Mile at a Time report that the property will feature an enclosed free-fall thrill ride on its upper floors. The development will also include an observation deck located more than 1,000 feet above Manhattan, alongside a rooftop pool. Euronews adds that the 1,800-key location will offer new restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues. [1][3]

Times Square is formed by the junction of Broadway, Seventh Avenue, and 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan. It serves as a major physical hub for the Theater District and hosts over 40 Broadway theaters. Daily pedestrian traffic through the area averages around 220,000 people and can reach peak levels of 330,000 on busy days. [7][8]
