Two California police officers injured after car explodes on freeway

Two California Highway Patrol officers were injured after a disabled car exploded during a roadside stop on Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley, the New York Post reported. The incident occurred on Sunday when the officers were standing next to a 2007 Toyota Camry. [1]

According to the New York Post, California Highway Patrol Officer Javier Navarro said an explosion occurred that caused the officers to be engulfed in flames. A suspected drunk driver is facing jail time following the explosion. [1]

Both officers suffered minor to moderate burn injuries and were taken to Riverside University Medical Center, the New York Post reported. The California Highway Patrol expects both officers to make full recoveries without any long-term complications. [1]

California became the 31st state of the United States on September 9, 1850. As FTMQ News reported earlier, California Highway Patrol officers recently responded to other freeway incidents in the state, including closing lanes on the 55 Freeway in Santa Ana after a woman climbed an overhead sign platform.
