The Equality and Human Rights Commission has written to Reform UK to raise concerns following an undercover television documentary, according to the Guardian and AOL.co.uk. The Guardian reported that the watchdog contacted Nigel Farage's party to ask what action it is taking to comply with the Equality Act. [1][2]
According to the Guardian, the letter follows revelations in the ITV programme Undercover: A Year in Reform, which was broadcast in October. The documentary showed councillors and candidates for Reform UK expressing racist and misogynistic views. The report added that one of the party's MPs also complained about ingrained sexism. [1]
The Equality and Human Rights Commission is a non-departmental public body established by the Equality Act 2006. It has responsibility for the promotion and enforcement of equality and non-discrimination laws across England, Scotland, and Wales. [3]
Reform UK achieved a breakthrough in the July 2024 general election by securing five seats in the House of Commons, including Nigel Farage's victory in the constituency of Clacton. [4]
