New documentary captures Blackpink member Lisa during past race scandal

A new documentary by film-maker Sue Kim follows K-pop star Lisa Manobal as an online scandal unfolded during her rehearsals for the 2025 Coachella Festival, the BBC reported. [1]

The controversy erupted after leaked videos emerged showing members of the group Blackpink using racial slurs as teenage trainees in the K-pop system, according to the BBC. The clips showed the group covering American rap songs during rehearsals with explicit language, including the n-word, left uncensored. [1]

The BBC reported that the release of the footage led to backlash from fans who were offended and upset, with some demanding an apology from the performer. Kim was granted unprecedented access to Manobal, who is also a star of the television show The White Lotus, capturing her reaction at her most candid. [1]

Separately, TicketNews reported that Manobal is set to become the first K-pop artist to secure a residency in Las Vegas. [3]
