Donald Trump has announced a multi-billion dollar steel investment in Iowa while making campaign appearances across the Midwest just days before the midterm elections.

Donald Trump announced in late September that the firm Mesabi Metallics would invest 15 billion dollars to construct the largest steel mill in the United States in Iowa, according to the Guardian. Word of the proposed construction near the town of Wever spread shortly before the upcoming midterm elections, although the outlet reported that no physical work has begun. [1]

The announcement comes as Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Dubuque, Iowa, ahead of the midterm elections. The Washington Examiner and Fox Business both reported that the former president spoke in Dubuque on Sunday afternoon after reversing an earlier decision to cancel his in-person campaign appearances. [2][4]

The campaign trail also included additional midwestern stops in Kansas. AP News, Al Jazeera, Fox News, and Channel 4 all reported that Donald Trump campaigned in both Iowa and Kansas as Republicans seek to retain control of the United States Senate and House of Representatives. [6][8][9][10]

During his appearance in Iowa, Donald Trump criticized Democratic candidates as crap, the Washington Times reported. CNN separately reported that Donald Trump stated during his Iowa event that he could have won the Vietnam War in a week. [3][5][7]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the Iowa appearance in Dubuque formed part of a broader midwestern swing that included a rally in Salina, Kansas, as both political parties make their final campaign push ahead of the midterm voting. [6][14]
