A syndicate from County Cork has claimed a National Lottery jackpot worth 5,664,896 euros, the Irish Examiner reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the winning ticket was purchased at an Eason store located in the Mahon Point Shopping Centre. [1][4]
The Irish Examiner reported that the head of the syndicate bought the Quick Pick ticket while browsing for a book during a shopping trip. The group checked the numbers one by one before confirming the win and notifying the rest of the members through a group chat message. [1]
The Irish Examiner noted that the syndicate members are the first winners since new Lotto game changes were introduced in September. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the ticket was bought on October 6, 2026, making the winner the twenty-fifth National Lottery millionaire in Ireland that year. [1][4]
The National Lottery began operations in March 1987 with scratchcards before launching the Lotto draw game the following year. Almost 40 percent of Irish adults play National Lottery games regularly, and nearly 27 percent of ticket sales go toward designated good causes. [2]
The syndicate plans to use part of the prize money to go on a Mediterranean cruise, the Irish Examiner reported. The win follows another jackpot claimed by a Cork family syndicate in September, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][3]
