Waterford Council has issued an e-tender valued at 55,000 euros to undertake a complete restoration of the city clock tower, the Irish Examiner reported. The planned works aim to recondition and renew the dials, glass, and internal moving parts of the landmark. [1]

The public clock tower is located on Meagher Quay, situated directly across from the historic Granville Hotel, according to the Irish Examiner. The publication noted that the timepiece has remained in a state of disrepair for several years. [1]

Local residents have expressed hopes that the proposed remedial works will restore the monument, the Irish Examiner reported. Some citizens had previously derided the malfunctioning timepiece as an embarrassment and a blemish on the city streetscape. [1]

The surrounding Clock Tower Plaza was recently remodelled as a public gateway to a new bridge, the Irish Examiner reported. The bridge connects Waterford city centre to a transport hub located across the River Suir, and the development project was recently shortlisted for a national civic award. [1]
