A woman had a close encounter with a great white shark after she reached off a fishing boat to touch the marine animal. The New York Post reported that the shark thrashed around and lunged toward her immediately after she reached out. [1]

The incident involved a woman named Jen, who was identified as a veteran on board the vessel. According to a Facebook post by the organization Knot Lucky Fishing, she placed her hand on the wild shark before it whipped around toward her. [1]

The founder of Knot Lucky Fishing, Jimmy Armel, stated that the woman was never in any actual danger. The New York Post reported his statement that the boat crew kept the shark under control throughout the entire encounter. [1]

Predation is a biological interaction where one organism kills and eats another organism as prey. This feeding behavior is distinct from scavenging, though some predators engage in both activities. [2]
