Authorities are searching for 11 missing people after a boat departed from Mexico and capsized off the coast of Baja California on Friday. The New York Post and Al Jazeera reported that 16 Mexican nationals were rescued from the water following the incident. As FTMQ News reported earlier, rescuers saved 16 people while 11 remained missing out of 27 people who were on board. [1][2][11]

Multiple survivors received medical treatment for severe injuries caused by suspected shark bites. The New York Post and Al Jazeera both reported that the United States Coast Guard provided life saving first aid to the survivors while transporting them to San Diego. [1][2]

The search operation involves multiple aircraft and boats operated by the United States Coast Guard and Navy, alongside assistance from the Mexican Navy. The New York Post reported that an additional helicopter was also deployed to assist the emergency crews. [1]

Baja California is the northwesternmost state in Mexico and borders the Pacific Ocean to the west, as well as the United States state of California to the north. Survivors informed officials that a total of 27 individuals were on board the vessel when it sank. [2][9]
