An eleven-month-old infant in Wisconsin died on Oct. 24 after choking on a piece of a balloon animal at a Halloween party, according to a report from the New York Post. [1]
The mother of the child told NBC Chicago that her son, Don’Vayaire Avita-Mays, was affectionately known as Baby Don by his family. She stated that the death occurred just two days before his first birthday. The mother explained that family members were keeping balloons away from the boy, but one balloon came undone and popped after he bit it. The tied portion of the balloon then shot into his esophagus. [1]
The child's mother immediately removed him from his car seat and performed CPR in an attempt to save him, the New York Post reported. [1]
Wisconsin is a United States state that was admitted to the Union in 1848. [8]
