Trent Alexander-Arnold has become the third choice right back at Real Madrid, according to reports from BBC News and Tribuna.com. The England defender joined the Spanish club in June 2025 with the goal of securing the starting right back role. However, BBC News reports that manager Jose Mourinho now appears to favour midfielder Fede Valverde as the primary starter in that position. [1][6]
The arrival of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan during the summer transfer window further increased competition for the right back spot, BBC News reported. Alexander-Arnold has featured in seven of the 13 matches played by Real Madrid so far this season. BBC News noted that he has started four times and registered one assist during those appearances. The lack of game time has prompted speculation regarding the defender's future at the club. Football365 and Yahoo reported that manager Jose Mourinho has responded to claims that Alexander-Arnold could leave Real Madrid, amid reports from Football365 that Liverpool made an enquiry regarding a potential January transfer.
