France releases strategic diesel reserves to reduce fuel prices
Fuel retailers in France have cut diesel prices after tapping into national strategic reserves following weeks of high energy costs across Europe.

Several fuel retailers in France have announced lower pump prices after drawing on strategic diesel reserves, Euronews reported. The French government released the emergency stocks to help cushion consumers from global market increases. [1]
On Saturday, 31 October, diesel in France sold at an average price of about 2.37 euros per litre, according to Euronews. Retailer TotalEnergies lowered prices at its Access stations to 2.15 euros per litre, which is 10 cents lower than at its standard stations. TotalEnergies stated that it introduced the price cut early so customers could immediately benefit from the historic cost of the reserve stocks. The E. Leclerc supermarket chain is also making similar reductions, Euronews reported. [1]
The price cuts follow recent warnings over global fuel supplies. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the International Energy Agency asked member nations in October to speed up strategic oil releases and prioritize diesel supplies. High fuel costs have already caused regional disruption; FTMQ News previously reported that Italian truck drivers blocked key transport routes and refineries in October to protest rising diesel prices. [4][5]
Although the release of French strategic reserves has provided immediate relief at the pump, Euronews reported that retail fuel prices will continue to track broader market movements in the future. [1]
