Real Madrid defeated rivals Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday in La Liga, BBC News and CBS Sports reported. Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for the visiting side, including a late winning goal, while CBS Sports noted that the second strike was his 100th goal for Real Madrid. The Independent reported that the result condemned Barcelona to their first league defeat of the season. [1][4][6]

The victory reduced the gap between the two Spanish football giants to three points, according to CBS Sports. FTMQ News reported earlier that Real Madrid were six points behind league leaders Barcelona following a 1-0 win against Villarreal earlier in the month. [4][14]

The win extends Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho's undefeated streak against Barcelona to six matches, BBC News reported. Mourinho joins Miguel Munoz and Vicente del Bosque as only the third Real Madrid manager to go six consecutive El Clasico matches without a loss. BBC News noted that this is just his second victory in eight matches against Barcelona. [1]

Prior to the match, Mourinho emphasised the global significance of the fixture, stating that while his team had momentum, the previous results had no influence because the world stops for El Clasico, BBC Sport reported. Al Jazeera noted that Mourinho previously faced a notable 5-0 defeat at Camp Nou during his first managerial stint with Real Madrid 15 years ago in November 2010. [2][3]
