Real Madrid have issued a formal apology to China following controversial comments from forward Kylian Mbappe. Fox News reported that the Spanish club reversed its original position defending the player's freedom of expression after Chinese state-run television station CCTV demanded an apology. [6][7]

Outlets including Courthouse News, Sports Business Journal, and the Taipei Times all reported that the club issued the apology after Mbappe's comments caused a significant public backlash in China. Goal.com noted that China responded with a fiery statement, though it reported that Real Madrid rejected an apology in the deepening crisis. [2][3][4][5]

The off-pitch controversy comes despite recent success on the field for the Spanish club. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Real Madrid recently defeated rivals Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou, with Mbappe scoring twice to reach 100 goals for the club. That result marked the first La Liga defeat of the season for Barcelona. [15]

In addition to player news, manager Jose Mourinho continues to draw attention at the club. The BBC reported that Mourinho began his coaching journey as an interpreter for Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting, Porto, and Barcelona, before becoming manager of Benfica in 2000. Mourinho has won the Champions League twice and now serves as head coach of Real Madrid. [1][9][12]
