Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk announced on Friday that the company will wind down production of its Cybertruck electric vehicle. The Washington Examiner, the South China Morning Post, the Daily Mail, The Washington Post, The Guardian, CNBC, and other outlets all reported that Musk shared the decision in a social media post on X. The Washington Examiner, the South China Morning Post, and the Daily Mail reported that the wind down at Gigafactory Texas will happen around the middle of next year. While the Washington Examiner and the South China Morning Post stated that production would end in 2027, the Daily Mail and CNBC reported that production will wrap up next year in 2027. Gigafactory Texas is located in unincorporated Travis County near Austin, Texas. [1][2][3][12][14]

The Washington Examiner, The Guardian, and CNBC reported that Tesla is ending Cybertruck manufacturing to make room for increased production of its Cybercab autonomous robotaxi. The South China Morning Post noted that the decision follows years of weak sales for the model, which faced limited international availability due to its heavy and angular design. [1][2][6][12]

The South China Morning Post reported that Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in the United States last year, which was a 48 percent decline from 2024 and far below the annual target of 250,000 units. The Daily Mail reported that roughly 70,000 Cybertrucks have been purchased since the vehicle launched in 2023. [2][3]
