Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that electric car maker Tesla and space exploration company SpaceX are actively considering a merger. According to BBC News, Musk confirmed during an earnings call with financial analysts regarding SpaceX quarterly business results that he supports the proposal. [1][8]

Special committees have been established within both companies to review the potential transaction, as reported by BBC News and the Wall Street Journal. BBC News noted Musk's warning that certainty regarding the deal should not be assumed, as it requires shareholder approval and the special committees have not yet reached an agreement on terms. [1][9]

The potential combination is also being monitored by other outlets, with The Telegraph, Axios, and SMH.com.au all reporting on the preliminary exploration of the deal. Musk stated during the call that he sees significant merit in merging the two firms. [1][2][10][11]

Musk serves as the chief executive officer and primary shareholder of both Tesla and SpaceX. He is currently listed as the world's wealthiest individual with an estimated net worth of $1.1 trillion. [12]

The news follows recent joint events between the two companies. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Musk recently unveiled a flying Tesla Roadster prototype at a SpaceX testing facility in McGregor, Texas. [14]
