Six Flags is installing seat belts on its Goliath roller coaster following the death of a passenger at Six Flags Over Georgia. The New York Post and the Wall Street Journal both reported that the company announced the new safety measures for its rides. Six Flags President and Chief Executive Officer John Reilly made the announcement on Friday. [1][2]
The changes follow an incident on October 12 in which Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old teacher from Atlanta, fell to his death from the 200-foot-tall ride. The New York Post reported that police and witnesses said Kariem was hurled from the speeding roller coaster during the ride. [1]
Six Flags Over Georgia is a 290-acre amusement park located in Mableton, Georgia. The park opened on June 16, 1967, making it the second amusement park established in the Six Flags chain. [5]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Six Flags previously closed nine roller coasters across six amusement parks after the fatal incident in Georgia, which also left four other people injured. The Cobb County Police Department major crimes unit opened an investigation into the fatal incident. [9]
