An orphaned five-month-old walrus calf named Annautaq has been transported more than 4,000 miles from Alaska to his new home at SeaWorld Orlando, the New York Post and FOX Weather reported. US Geological Survey biologist Tony Fischbach and intern Violet Anniskett discovered the calf on September 14 on a beach in Point Lay in northern Alaska, according to the New York Post. [1][2]

The New York Post reported that researchers were searching the remote beach after a walrus herd departed during heavy surf. They were collecting carcass samples to study algal toxins when they found the 220-pound calf lying on the sand between two dead walruses. The rescuers immediately took action to save the young animal, the outlet added, citing the Alaska Sealife Center. [1]

SeaWorld Orlando is an animal theme park located in Florida that opened on December 15, 1973. The park spans approximately 200 acres and features various sea life habitats and marine mammal displays. [4][5]
