Serbian authorities arrested eight serving police officers and one former officer on Wednesday, Euronews reported. The Interior Ministry stated that the arrests relate to suspected abuse and torture carried out against student protesters in Belgrade during anti-government demonstrations last year. [1]
According to the Interior Ministry statement cited by Euronews, the nine suspects were on duty in August 2025 when they used force and threats to inflict severe pain and suffering on several people. Officials said the officers acted to extract information, intimidate victims, and carry out unlawful acts. [1]
The arrests follow previous student-led demonstrations across Europe. As FTMQ News reported earlier, nationwide student protests in France in October 2026 drew nearly 480,000 participants and led to clashes between demonstrators and security forces. [3]
