A student movement named Student List is set to challenge President Aleksandar Vučić and the ruling party in an upcoming vote, the Guardian reported. The campaign follows two years of continuous protests that have challenged the 12-year reign of the ruling party. Volunteers equipped with mobile applications and lanyards have been canvassing neighborhoods in Krnjača, a suburb of Belgrade. [1]

The broader protest movement began in November 2024 in Novi Sad after a railway station canopy collapsed, killing 16 people and severely injuring another. By March 2025, student-led demonstrations calling for accountability expanded to 400 cities and towns throughout Serbia. [2]

The upcoming challenge represents the most serious political obstacle that Aleksandar Vučić has encountered during his 12 years in power, according to the Guardian. Campaign volunteers are using digital mapping tools to record visited households and track voter support levels ahead of the vote on Sunday. [1]
