Serbian criminal police chief Marko Kricak arrested over abuse of office

The head of Serbia's criminal police directorate, Marko Kricak, has been arrested and charged with abuse of office, state media reported on 1 November 2026. BGNES, DW, Gazeta Express, and Nacionale all reported the arrest of the criminal police chief. DW reported that state media announced the charges on Sunday. [1][2][3][4]

DW reported that the 42-year-old official is accused of suppressing and manipulating an investigation into the murder of a suspected criminal underworld figure in a Belgrade restaurant in May. BGNES also reported that the arrest was connected to alleged evidence tampering in a murder investigation. [1][3]

DW described Kricak as a supporter and loyalist of Aleksandar Vucic. Prosecutors stated that the arrest is not linked to the recent election defeat of Vucic, according to DW. DW reported that Vucic's right-wing populist camp was defeated by the opposition Student List in parliamentary elections in October. [1]
