Authorities in the South Korean city of Busan made a third attempt on Wednesday to guide a trapped shark out of a canal and back into the open sea, Euronews reported. The city and the Coast Guard monitored the water from the shore and a makeshift bridge, while divers entered the canal to assist. [1]

Rescue teams used a net secured to a pontoon to direct the animal toward open water, according to Euronews. The shark was seen swimming close to the shore at several points during the operation. Large crowds of onlookers gathered along the banks to watch the rescue efforts, Euronews and the BBC reported. [1][8]

The shark first entered the waterway on 18 September, Euronews reported. Since its appearance, the animal has attracted more than a million visitors. Busan is one of the major cities in South Korea, an East Asian nation located on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. [1][13]

By late Wednesday afternoon, it was still unclear whether the rescue team had succeeded in guiding the shark back to open sea, Euronews reported. [1]
