Republican candidate John Nagel has criticised Representative Ilhan Omar during his campaign to unseat her in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, Fox News reported. The criticism follows a raid on the Democratic congresswoman's Washington, D.C., residence a month before the midterm election. [1]
According to Fox News, Nagel said Omar should easily clear up public misunderstandings about her immigration status during the federal fraud investigation. Nagel claimed that Omar considers herself Somali first and American second, and he alleged that Minneapolis faces a gun-running operation and a terrorist problem. Foreign Policy Journal also reported on the criminal probe affecting Omar's return to the Minneapolis Somali community. [1][2]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal agents searched Omar's Washington residence on October 12 and seized mobile phones. Federal investigators are examining her identity and immigration records after a resurfaced 2013 social media post showed her calling her father Nur Said. Omar maintains that her name has always been Ilhan Omar. [4]
As FTMQ News previously reported, President Donald Trump stated that Omar could face jail or deportation as federal authorities expanded the immigration fraud probe. Federal agents also questioned her sister, Sahra Noor, while former President Barack Obama criticised the federal investigation. [5]
