Motorist found guilty of murdering headteacher in Manchester car attack

A motorist has been found guilty of murder after driving into a cyclist and dragging him under his car for more than a mile in Greater Manchester, the Guardian reported. Simon Richardson, aged 35, was convicted by a jury over the killing of 56-year-old headteacher Michael Mullins. [1]

According to the Guardian, Michael Mullins was cycling home from Stretford grammar school on the evening of 20 April when he was struck by a Volvo XC90 driven by Simon Richardson. Richardson drove straight through give-way markers at a junction in Altrincham and into the path of Mullins. [1]

The Guardian reported that Michael Mullins fell on to the bonnet and windscreen of the vehicle before going under the car. The jury heard that Simon Richardson knew the headteacher was beneath his four-by-four as he continued driving. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier during the trial, Michael Mullins was a father of two. Prosecutors previously told the court that a trail of blood over a mile long led to the dying headteacher after the collision in Altrincham. [1][2]
