Political activist Tommy Robinson has been convicted of harassing two Daily Mail journalists. A jury at Southwark Crown Court in London found the 43 year old guilty of two counts of harassment causing fear of violence, BBC News, The Guardian, and The New York Times reported. The Independent, The i Paper, and Metro.co.uk also reported the conviction. [1][2][4][7][8][9]

The case followed Daily Mail and MailOnline articles from August 2024 that showed Robinson on holiday in Cyprus while riots occurred in England, according to BBC News. BBC News and The Guardian reported that trial prosecutors described how Robinson used bully boy intimidatory tactics against reporters Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber. The Guardian reported that journalists and their family members were forced to flee their homes after Robinson shared images of family online, while BBC News noted the reporters had to employ security or leave their properties. [1][2]

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, had denied the charges, BBC News and The Guardian reported. BBC News added that Robinson claimed in court that he had panicked. As FTMQ News reported earlier during the week long trial, Robinson admitted in court to hiring private investigators to track down and photograph the two reporters to put pressure on them. [1][2][11][12]

The Daily Mail is edited by Ted Verity and its digital counterpart MailOnline draws nearly 200 million monthly visits. Robinson now faces sentencing following the verdict at Southwark Crown Court. [1][10]
