Met Éireann has issued three weather warnings for Cork and Kerry as torrential downpours and gale-force winds hit the southwestern counties. The Irish Examiner reported that conditions are expected to remain volatile throughout Monday, threatening the end of the bank holiday weekend. [1]
The hazardous weather follows the destructive aftermath of Storm Boelo, which left more than 40,000 homes and businesses without power over the weekend, the Irish Examiner reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Storm Boelo was the second named storm of the European windstorm season and prompted severe weather alerts across the region. [1][4][5]
Due to the status yellow warnings, Cork County Council announced the cancellation of the Malloween family event at Mallow Castle, according to the Irish Examiner. [1]
In separate news, Cork's 96FM reported that lottery players in Cork and Kerry each won 77,437 euros in the bank holiday weekend draw. [2]
